I own a costume of my "fursona," the character I created to represent me within the Furry fandom. At conventions, when I'm in costume, I'm often approached by strangers, some furry, some not, who ask for hugs from the big pink fox. I'm always more than happy to give them. The joy on someone's face when they hug a giant stuffed animal, the way they glow, is truly magical.
I spent the better part of my teen years struggling within the confines of the labels assigned to me, and my twenties breaking away from them and finding the labels that best fit me. It is a project I don't think will ever end, as long as I still draw breath and can still ask questions. But it has been a remarkable experience, and through everything, I still have an overarching philosophy guiding my life: love. Love other people. Love your hobbies. But most importantly, love yourself. That last one can be the hardest, but the most fulfilling if you can find that secret to loving yourself.
