I recently walked in the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention's Out of the Darkness walk. I wear their wristband and advocate for others to talk openly about mental health issues. I do this to put myself out there, because in similarity I hope that others may find camaraderie and, talk about their struggles, knowing they aren't alone.
Mental health is on the cusp of being something we talk about. It is beginning to shed the skin of something we refuse to see. People are being heard. As an outspoken mental health advocate, this project represents everything I believe about shattering the stigma surrounding labels. I am looking forward to a world in which these labels fade into the background, safe as a piece of our identity, but not a defining factor of our social value.
