At 28 years old I became a foster parent to a 16 year old then at 30 years I have continued to foster children in my community.
Labels are controlling and limiting only if you let them be.

I am going on 12 years as a foster parent. Without a doubt the most challenging job I've ever loved.
At this time last year, I was unconscious, and on ECMO life support for 2.5 months. These past several months home, I've had the opportunity to connect with others who for similar and different reasons ended up with lung disease requiring supplemental oxygen like myself. Through these people, I have offered support, received support, and been able to share my experiences of keeping an active lifestyle while having to use oxygen.
Participating today to support some of my favorite causes. Worcester Pride and the No Evil Project. I think we are all guilty of labeling, inadvertently or not. When I don't have the O2 on my face, my disability is invisible and people expect me to be the person I was before Sept 2021.

There's good in everyone!
I'm always willing to listen and share my story if it means helping someone else through the dark.
It has been hard to cope with being a survivor of violence and preserve the identities that I'm proud of. Labels can hurt and people don't realize how damaging some can be during recovery.
