This past March I went on a mission trip to Nicaragua and helped to build a classroom for a school, a university, and also helped to refurbish a zoo. It was the most amazing experience of my life and I plan to return there very soon!
Because it is a good cause!
Once a month my best friend and I volunteer at a soup kitchen.
I volunteered to get trained and do people's taxes who can't afford to pay to get them done through my accounting society program VITA.
To support my friend Erin who worked so hard and put on this program through Residential Life.

I spent 9 days in the Dominican Republic with a group called Jersey G.O.E.S. (Group of Extraordinary Students). We took part in the Village Mountain Mission Project and began work on three houses in the village of Luperon. Along with building a physical home, we built bonds with the families we worked with and created relationships that overcame all boundaries of socioeconomic class, nationality, and language.
Diversity is the most interesting aspect about everything we do as human beings. No matter who you're with, the people around you will always have at least one thing that makes them unique. These differences should be embraced and shared with the world, not shut down and suppressed.
I love making people smile!

In high school I worked with the Special Olympics to help teach tennis to Special Olympians. As I taught them valuable tennis skills, I also tried to just bring laughter and joy to their day by hanging out with them like I do with my friends, and in return they brought me more joy than I probably did them. It is not hard to bring happiness to people...sometimes just a simple smile in passing can change a persons day.

I teach children how to swim in the summer. I'm lifeguard, CPR, and AED certified. Some children are terrified of the water and it's up to me to prove to them that there is nothing to fear. It feels so good to be able to help someone overcome their fear and to learn a powerful skill that is often over looked. By the end of the summer most children are able to jump in the deep end and enjoy their time in the water when just three months earlier they were so afraid of it. I believe that everyone should learn how to swim because that would save a lot of lives each year.
Anyone can do good things, even if it's smiling to someone on the street or holding the door open for someone walking behind you. These small things have a profound impact on the lives of others and people often overlook them.

I bought a woman lunch who was struggling to find her cash. It's the little things that matter most!
I truly believe that there is at least a little bit of good in everyone, so I really believe in what this project promotes.
