I own a costume of my "fursona," the character I created to represent me within the Furry fandom. At conventions, when I'm in costume, I'm often approached by strangers, some furry, some not, who ask for hugs from the big pink fox. I'm always more than happy to give them. The joy on someone's face when they hug a giant stuffed animal, the way they glow, is truly magical.
I spent the better part of my teen years struggling within the confines of the labels assigned to me, and my twenties breaking away from them and finding the labels that best fit me. It is a project I don't think will ever end, as long as I still draw breath and can still ask questions.
