Tell Us Your Good Deed

I helped in two different builds for homes for deserving families. It was so inspiring to see how many people came out to help build homes for these families without even knowing them personally...just wanting to be part of helping others in need. It was very heart warming.

I like to participate in local events and things to help support my local community. I feel that it is up to us as a community member to help make sure that the community stays strong.

Tell Us Your Good Deed

I served as a teenage role model and leader to the young ladies of my community. Twice a week I would go to work and be ambushed by many smiles and girls. It was the greatest feeling to leave work and see the smiles that I'd put on the girls faces and the smile that they'd put on mine. Now, I'm a junior at Salem State University, and I make certain to continue to work with others as I'm a tour guide and aid prospective students and families in making the decision as to where they will spend their college careers.

Why are you participating?

Because in the world, labels shouldn't mean anything. This project is a great way for people to label themselves in a way that expresses who they truly are... it's 100% acceptable to be yourself!

Tell Us Your Good Deed

I work at a non profit organization with girls, working with them to be strong and bold.

Why are you participating?

I think that as a woman, I need to work on being louder and advocating for myself. By helping other young women to do the same, I am doing my part for today's and future society.

Tell Us Your Good Deed

Three years ago, I met a second year student from North High School at a Sister-to-Sister Conference. I was listening to a group of girls describe issues that they were struggling with. Afterwards, a 15 year old girl approached me to state that she was having a difficult time in her math class and was concerned about passing the mathematics portion of the MCAS that following spring. It was a serendipitous moment. I saw a spark in this young woman and knew she would be successful. We met weekly for 7 months, and she not only passed the MCAS, but got As and Bs in her math class.

I am extremely fortunate to have the privilege to empower girls and young women to be STRONG, SMART, & BOLD. Using the expressive arts as a platform to have their voices heard (music, theatre, dance, poetry, storytelling, visual arts, graphic arts) girls can address the difficult challenges they face growing up in today's society: including bullying, body image, self-esteem, peer pressure and healthy relationships.

Why are you participating?

I am participating because I feel it is important to bring an awareness that labels and stereotyping can be limiting and in some cases, damaging.

I work with some of the coolest girls on Earth to help them learn all about science, math, engineering, and technology as well as gain important leadership skills. I also love to volunteer on organic farms and smile at strangers.
