I've tried to "adopt" one of the older homeless gentlemen in my neighborhood, "Roy". I try to bring him a hot meal daily or make sure he's got blankets or even just sit with him on the corner and talk for a while. He has been on the street for 40 years but he stays positive. He has ended up having more of an impact on me than I could ever have hoped to have on him.

One time I comforted a stressed-out waitress. It was Christmas, and she was being yelled at over something she couldn't control by a very rude family. She looked like she was about to cry so I called her over to me and told her she didn't deserve such harsh treatment. I gave her a hug and tipped her for her time and effort to work on a holiday.
